Yoga Sutra 1.20

1.20 With faith and focused effort, the practitioner remembers his identity as the Self, even if it is forgotten or the practitioner becomes complacent.

The key word in this sutra is remembers. This is saying that we once knew our identity as Self, so we don’t have to learn something scary and new. We just need to remember something that we previously forgot. If we’ve become complacent or forgotten this fact, we’re told that it’s alright, just take the actions that help us to remember.

Today I will practice the art of remembering. At any time my ego gets caught up in false self, I’ll remember my true nature, and relax into it.
