Yoga Sutras

As a personal practice of both devotion and study, I’ve been writing a daily reflection based on Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras. It’s an incredible way to start my day and get me into the head space of yoga and meditation practice. I’m going to go ahead and dive right in.

Yoga Sutra 1.1

The following is a guide for the study of yoga.

It’s thoughtful of Patanjali to give us a preface of what we’re about to embark on. It is clear to me at this point that the “study of yoga” is much more that the practice of asana, or physical movement. The idea of having a study guide to the physical, emotional, and mental parts of yoga is quite reassuring.

Today I will contemplate a guide to life. If I were to live by an all-encompassing guide to living a free and loving life, what would that look like? What would I do?
